Myakka River State Park is one of the oldest and largest state parks in Florida, occupying 57 square miles of wetlands, prairies and woodlands. The park is open year-round from 8 AM until sunset, although visitor facilities have shorter hours.

Background:
Myakka River Park sits on land gifted to the state of Florida by the descendants of Bertha Palmer, the largest landowner in the region. The park was built between 1934 and 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and opened to the public in 1942.
