McMinnville is the largest city and county seat of Yamhill County with a population of 32,187 (2010 Census). McMinnville's founder, William T. Newby, named it after his hometown, McMinnville, Tennessee. The town was incorporated in 1876 and residents voted to move the county seat from Lafayette to McMinnville in 1886.
The city is also home to Linfield College, a private four-year college founded in 1858 and noted for it's NCAA record streak of 57 consecutive winning seasons (as of 2011).
McMinnville is home to the annual Turkey Rama, a festival held mid-summer to celebrate turkey barbecuing as turkey farming was a leading industry in McMinnville's early days. The town is now noted as the home of the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, whose featured attraction is the Howard Hughes flying boat the "Spruce Goose."
The city hall building is a converted two-story, 5,169 sq. foot private residence, built in 1940.
