Zwischen dem Bad Steben und Geroldsgrün steht auf dem 679 m hohen, teilweise mit Wald und Felsblöcken bedecken Hirschhügel die Frankenwarte.
Auf dem 8,5 m hohen, runden Steinturm bietet sich aus den Aussichtsluken unter dem Zeltdach ein Rundblick im Nordosten zu den Randhöhen des Höllentals, Lichtenberg und Bad Steben, im Westen zu den Höhenzügen bei Nordhalben. Im Süden sind Geroldsgrün, der 729 m hohe Spitzberg und 758 m hohe Schneidberg und dahinter versteckt die höchste Erhebung des Frankenwaldes, der 794 m hohe Döbraberg zu erkennen. Im Südosten reicht der Blick bis ins Fichtelgebirge zum Waldstein und Kornberg.
Das Sprichwort „Gut Ding will Weile haben“ trifft sicher auf den Bau der Frankenwarte zu, den bereits im Jahr 1930 waren Planungen im Gange im Bereich des Aussichtshügels einen Turm zu errichten.Am 12. August 1951 konnte die „Frankenwarte“ dann eingeweiht werden.Nach einer Generalsanierung 1986 wurde im Jahr 1989 noch eine Tafel mit der Turmgeschichte angebracht.
