The Red River is the main river of northern Vietnam. It begins in southern China, flows to the south-east, and then through and past the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, to the coast. In this area of northern Vietnam it forms the Red River Delta, a rich and fertile agricultural area.
One of the main distributaries of the Red River is the Duong River. This River branches off in central Hanoi, making it easy to reach. The Duong then winds its way eastwards joining with the Thai Binh River, when then flows to the Gulf of Tonkin. Incidentally, this is a short river, no more than 40 kilometres in length, based upon what can be seen in Google maps.
The confluence point chosen here is a small peninsular in the middle of the Red River, with the Duoung River branching of to the east/right, when looking north along the Red River. Reaching this point is not difficult, but I would suggest a motorbike, the network of roads along this peninsular are a little rough, broken, and narrow. There is a small Buddhist shrine near the end of the peninsular, but the beach area here is broken ground, covered with industrial debris, essentially unreachable.
Both rivers are busy with traffic (mainly barges, but a few tourist boats), and are crossed with numerous bridges. This northern, Hanoi area of Vietnam is the industrial powerhouse of Vietnam.
