Cette église est un très bon exemple d'un édifice conçu selon une interprétation vernaculaire du style baroque propre à la vallée du Saint- Laurent. Bien que construite entre 1774 et 1779, c'est cependant sa façade ajoutée en 1839, avec son fronton et ses deux tours, qui lui confère aujourd'hui sa remarquable silhouette. Son harmonieux décor intérieur a été réalisé par des artistes de renom parmi lesquels figurent le sculpteur Philippe Liébert et le peintre Joseph Légaré. L'église Saint-Joachim enrichit par sa stature le paysage traditionnel de Châteauguay.
The text on the plaque reads as follows:
This church is a fine example of a building reflecting the Baroque vernacular tradition found in the St. Lawrence valley. Built between 1774 and 1779, it is the façade added in 1839, with pedimented portal and twin towers, that creates its striking silhouette. The harmonious interior decoration was executed in part by the renowned artists Philippe Liébert, sculptor, and Joseph Légaré, painter. Its very presence enriches the traditional landscape of Châteauguay.
