This theater building has a varied history, and is still currently occupied, with hope that a resurgence of renovation will continue in this historic part of Oklahoma City.

Established in 1904, Capitol Hill on the south side of Oklahoma City was originally a town of its own, and slated to become Oklahoma'a capitol. It was later annexed to Oklahoma City, and became a bustling area of commerce and residential properties. When this building at 227 S.W. 25th Street (now Commerce Street) was constructed, it opened as the Capitol Hill Theater, with seating for 500. In 1921, the name of the theater was changed to the Yale, and in 1946, it was enlarged with seating for 800. It was used for "live" theater until the late 1920s. By the late 1970s, the theater had deteriorated from neglect and was what we'd call a "movie house." It closed down in the 1980s and sat empty for years. All that remains of the original structure is the stage area, snack bar, ticket booths & walkway railing.

This is a brick building, with a vinyl siding on the front. There are two recessed entries, each with a set of double doors with glass panels. At the center between the entrances is the original ticket booth.

In recent years, the building was the venue for wrestling matches. Even today, the marquee still shows advertising for an event. But, today, it is home to Rick's Party House. This is a business which has party supplies for sale and rent, and offers space for rent for various events, such as parties and wedding receptions. The business owner is Brett Garcia 305-7259.

Among the photos posted is a photo taken of a framed photo of the theater, found on the wall in a local restaurant. This photo would have been taken in the summer of 1950 when the two movies on the marquee were released.
