"Zahlreiche Gletscher bedecken ab einer Höhe von etwa 2500 m ü. A. besonders die nördlichen Bereiche, sind aber durch die Globale Erwärmung stark im Schwinden begriffen. Im Südtiroler Teil der Zillertaler Alpen liegen die Gletscher höher und sind kleiner. Einige der höchsten Dreitausender im Hauptkamm können daher von Süden her „eisfrei“ begangen werden."
