This waymark is the summit of Guadalupe Peak, which is reachable by a long switchback trail.
The summit is a very inhospitable place, with little vegetation, and what vegetation is there is cactus! The summit is marked by a very shiny pyramid-shaped aluminum marker. It was placed by American Airlines in the 1950s to commemorate the 100th anniversary Butterfield Overland Mail Route which passed just south of the Peak, and carried mail to California before the creation of the Pony Express.
Be careful not to touch the summit marker in the summer! The summit register is at the pyramid base, in a large ammo can.
Altitude in Feet: 8749
