Isalaw was the bardic name of John Richards, who was born in this house in 1843, known as the King's Head in Bangor. He was educated first in Bangor and then for two years in Birmingham.
On his return to Bangor and with his friend Thomas Williams he set up the first music class in Bangor which taught people to sing using sol-fa notation.
He wrote a number of articles on music in various journals and he was a prolific composer of hymns, many of which are still used in churches, chapels and played at concerts to this day.
His best-known hymn-tune is probably that called ' Sanctus '.
The tablet is located above the entrance to the building, which is now a fish & chips shop.
