"Lunenburg ... was formally established in 1753 as the first British Colonial settlement in Nova Scotia outside of Halifax. These early settlers were from various parts of Germany, Switzerland, and the Montbeliard region of France. They followed in the footsteps of earlier Mikmaq and Acadian inhabitants in the area. A vibrant and stable economy was built on farming, fishing, ship building and ocean-based commerce, particularly in the West Indies trade."

If you are out walking around town you will notice that many of the buildings date from throughout the 1800s. The community is well kept and the residents are proud of their community. A stop at the post office and you will recognize that the friendly faces extend beyond those who live in town.
Post office staff are fast and efficient and will tell you about where you might want to visit in the community or nearby. Perhaps the favourite restaurant in town like the Grande Banks.
