The Douglas trail was created from 12.5 miles of abandoned Chicago Great Western railroad bed. It is a multiple use paved trail that includes hiking, biking, in-line skating and cross-country skiing. There is also a secondary natural trail for horseback riding and snowmobiles.
Beginning in Rochester, the trail runs northwest through the small town of Douglas and on to Pine Island. It runs through the picturesque rolling fields, pastures and farmland of southeastern Minnesota.
