On Boston's Deer Island, there is a great vantage point from which to see the Boston cityscape.
Deer Island has a mixture of uses. In the center of the peninsula (it at one time was an island) is the Deer Island Sewage Treatment Center. On the shore are a series of trails that completely circle the facility. At any point along the trails there is a great view of the ocean and the Boston Harbor Islands. The west side, however, has a great view of downtown Boston, and the best view is on top of the drumlin to the north of the facility.
Most of Boston's Waterfront can be seen. Castle Island/South Boston just out into the harbor across the water. Behind the airport is the waterfront for downtown Boston, where the skyscrapers are located. To the right are the runways and terminals of the airport in East Boston (still part of the city).
Also along the trail along the crest of the drumlin is a sign that has the city buildings and callouts to identify individual ones. The trails are mostly paved and have gentle slopes up the drumlin, which is about 80 ft high.
Deer Island Park is part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Park and Recreation Area. To get to Deer Island, you can drive there via Winthrop (consult a map), or you can ride a passenger ferry. I believe that the park is closed at night.
