On Boston's Deer Island, on the drumlin, which is the high point of the park, is a viewing area that has a standard binocular station.

The binoculars are located at a stone-lined viewing point along the crest of a drumlin - a sandy hill about 40 ft above sealevel. The view is mostly to the south, with some views to the southeast and west. Directly in front of you is the Deer Island Sewage Treatment facility, one of the largest in the country. There is an orientation table to help you identify major features in the facility.

The binoculars are painted blue and are manufactured by SeeCoast Manufacturing Co., Inc. They can pivot, and you can adjust the angle.

There is no charge for the view.

Deer Island is both a sewage treatment facility and a park, which is part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Park and Recreation Area. You can arrive by car via Winthrop (get a map to determine how to get there) - no charge for parking; or you can arrive by ferry boat near the southern end of the park.
