On top of the Suffield Fire Department building there is a yellow Federal Signal 2T22 siren. This siren contains an omnidirectional double layer of horns. There are 12 horns on the top row and 10 on the bottom row for a total of 22.
The Fire Department has a six member Board of Fire Commissioners and operates under the direction of a paid Fire Chief. It relies heavily on volunteer members. Hence the need for the large 360 degree siren to summon their volunteers and to warn traffic on the highway to yield the right of way to the fire equipment leaving the station.
