How long this steam locomotive remain in existance remains to be seen. The City of Waterville has solicited bids for both complete removal of the locomotive or restoration of some degree of the locomotive. Visit these links for more information:

Update March 2014:
New England Steam Corporation has been awarded the bid with the intent to restore 470 to operating condition!
Currently a fence has been erected around 470 until funds are raised for restoration. Once the funds are secured 470 will be moved to a Maine facility. The train is still closely viewable, but can no longer be touched.
