The Sun, represented by a ball (230cm across) on the fountain in Horní Square in front of the Hláska Building, lies at the centre of the solar system. Mercury, a tiny sphere 0.8cm across can be found near the Silesian Theatre in Horní Square. Venus is represented by a 2cm ball near the Chapel of St Elizabeth at the Fish Market. A model of the Earth, also 2cm across, is located in front of the arcading in Dvorák park; 62cm from that is the Moon, a mere 0.6cm across. From the Sun to the Earth and Moon we have travelled 240m. Mars is a 1.1cm ball located in front of the rectorate of the University of Silesia. The model of Uranus measuring 8.5cm across stands opposite the Monuments to the Czechoslovak Defensive Line and Army in Milostovice, an 8cm Neptune adorning a park between the church and the House of Culture in Steborice. Even Pluto, the most distant object in the solar system and promoted to planet status in 2006, is represented by a 3.6mm speck at the entrance to the arboretum in Nový Dvur, around 9.5km from the centre of Opava where we started.
