Europe's largest dome is not a church or a sports stadium. It is a storage building for salt.

The Saldome2 opened in June 2012. It is made of more than 1300 m3 of locally grown wood. The dome has a span width of 120 meters and a height of 32.5 meters, the storage capacity is over 100,000 tons salt.

It is located on the property of the saline where most of the salt is produced. The area is just next to a residential zone of Möhlin but is on the soil of Neighboring Rheinfelden. Just next to Saldome2 is the Saldome; this one was built in 2005 with a span width of 93 meters and a height of 31 meters. It was Switzerland's largest dome then.

Currently (August 2012) Google Maps provides a picture of the area that is from Summer 2009. This was before construction started, so there is nothing to see.
