Joey Vento opened his cheesesteak shop in 1966. It quickly became famous for its over-the-top neon signage. The cheesesteak in neon is a landmark for tourists and locals alike.
The best place to enjoy the beauty of Geno's neon and lighted signage (in our opinion) is across the street at Pat's King of Steaks, while enjoying a steak wiz wit (a cheesesteak sandwich with cheese whiz and onions). The the steaks, service, and atmosphere are much better at Pat's -- and you aren't blinded by the neon.
