"The sculpture, by John W Mills, shows a group of three firefighters, two of whom are operating a hose and a third standing figure of a sub-officer, pointing towards the fire and seemingly calling for reinforcements. The memorial was unveiled by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on May 4th 1991.
The Princess Royal, patron of the Firefighters' Memorial Charitable Trust, attended a service and ceremony of re-dedication on 16 September 2003. A total of 1,192 names were inscribed in bronze onto the memorial". source: (
