The statue is dated 23rd June 2005 and it is placed in front of Kon-Tiki museum, dedicated to the journeys of Thor Heyerdahl. You can see the Kon-Tiki and Ra rafts inside, a part of the exposition is also dedicated to Moai statues and reconstructing how they have been built - a research in which Heyerdahl cooperated with Czech engineer Pavel Pavel.
There are plaques in Norvegian and Spanish, stating that the statue was given as an act of friendship between Norway and Chile, and another commemorative plaque, placed there on occasion of Chilean president visit in 2007.
