Per the timeline given on the Historic Shepherdstown Museum website,
The Entler Hotel suffered great financial loss during the War Between the States. It served as a hospital after the Battle of Antietam (September 17, 1862), and as a Union billet for most of the remainder of the war.

The Natrional Register application also references this event with noting that the battle was only three miles away and the most wounded were taken to this hotel.
