This Federal style brick building was constructed in sections around the turn of the 19th century. Daniel Entler managed a hotel here from 1823 until 1873. When the hotel closed in 1917, it subsequently became the first men's dormitory, known as Rumsey Hall, at Shepherd College. Shepherdstown bought the building in 1978, and renovated it to house the Historic Shepherdstown Museum.

The red-painted brick building forms an integral part of the downtown historical community. The museum is open from April through October on Saturdays 11AM-5PM and Sundays 1PM-4PM.
