Once the home of Thomas Meux, M.D., the house was continuously occupied by the Meux family until 1970 when it was willed to the city of Fresno for use as a museum. Meux served as a physician in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He settled in the Fresno area after the war's end. The home is said to have been purchased out of the Sears catalog and constructed in 1889. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
