In Needham, along Central Avenue, is Claxton Field, which has two softball fields, and other features such as floodlights, bleachers, and grills.
Claxton Field is located about a quarter mile south of the intersection of Central Avenue and Marked Tree Road, and the entrance to the parking lot is on the left as you drive southwest from that intersection.
Claxton Field has two softball fields. The one on the left is the slightly larger of the two. It has a fence backstop fence enclosed dugout benches, and a bleacher section. There is a batting cage along the third base line (looked locked at the time). The one on the right has benches a smaller bleacher area. Both have tall floodlights that allow for night time playing.
Public restrooms are available (assume only for scheduled games). Also, there is a playground and a picnic area to the side.
I found nothing that stated what specifically was scheduled at these fields. There is little league in town, and there are other organized adult softball leagues. Occasionally, there are other special events, including charity games.
There is a plaque on a rock in front of the larger field stating that the field is in memory of Philip H. Claxton, a pioneer in park and recreation for the town of Needham.
