This Buddhist stupa is near the former capital of the Xiengkhouang Province, the town of . Details about the stupa are hard to come by, or rather, there are conflicting accounts of its age and history. From a popular Lao tourism website (http://www.visit-mekong.com/laos/xieng-khouang/attractions.htm).

The stupa is also known as That Chomsi. It is ~30 metres tall, was built in the Lanna style in 1576. There is a hollowed out cavity through the centre of the stupa. This was made either by Chinese Ho, 19th century marauders, in search of Buddhist relics. The stupa housed ashes of the Buddha, brought here from India.
