This arboretum is located on the eastern side of the OIT campus, close to the dorms. There are two access gates but only one will let you in. This place is only open during the daylight hours and locked up at night. Once inside, you will see a nice variety of trees, both native and non-native to the Klamath Basin. Most all of the tree species have small identifiers giving the name and scientific name of the species.
This arboretum was a community project donated by many local individuals' time and effort but unfortunately has been neglected for the past several years. There is fountain and a stream that flows through the property but hasn't operated in years. Many weeds and grass have grown all around, covering the pebbled paths that weave in and out of the planted trees.
The arboretum is pretty large, about two acres, and still has some room for additional trees. It would be nice if the community got together and spent some time to clean this place up for others to admire and appreciate.
