The lighthouse was designed by D & T Stevenson, engineers from Edinburgh, Scotland. It was built in 1871 from a nearby granite quarry. Back in the 70s this lighthouse had almost completely collapsed due to neglect. However the community pulled together and restored it.
The Canadian Coast Guard has re-lamped the lighthouse, thus making it an active aid to navigation.
Rose Blanche is a wonderful place to visit, as is all the towns on the SW coast of Newfoundland.
