Text on plaque in front of sculpture:

Doctor Dan

This sculpture was created in support of the Nature Conservancy & Spirit of the Buffalo program. It honors the bison, the life-giving symbol of Native Peoples, and the mission of the Nature Conservancy, which is to preserve the diversity of life on Earth. The serenity of nature and the sanctity of life are especially important at this healing place, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

"Dr. Dan,", as the OU Health Sciences Center's Buffalo is named, was created by artists Louise Jones and Dan Kiacz. It represents the final project of Dan Kiacz's extraordinary career as an artist. Kiacz died on April 9, 2004. An internationally known artist and printer, he was also a gifted teacher, touching the lives of thousands of students during his 31-year career at the OU School of Art.
