Wat Yon is one of the major wats of the provincial capital city of Phonsavan, capital of the northern Laos province of Xiangkhouang. On the northern side of the temple grounds is a colourful bell and drum tower. The bell is of a rare design in my experience, long and cylindrical. This type of bell is rung not by congregants, but by monks who call the locals to visit the wat and give alms, plus important ceremonies.
