"Rudy J. Gunter was born in Kemmerer, WY, graduated from Kemmerer High School and went on to receive his BA in Education with a double major in Art and Industrial Arts from the University of Wyoming. While attending UW, he studied under Robert Russin. Upon completion of College , Rudy was offered a teaching position at Green River High School, where he taught for 38 years.
During his tenure at GRHS, Rudy convinced the Board of Trustees to build a foundry so his students could learn to do bronze casting. Rudy served in the capacity of Art Department Chairperson from 1981 until his retirement in 2001. The students at GRHS received the most ribbons at the State Art Symposium for 19 consecutive years. In 1999, Rudy completed the Wolf Pack Sculpture in front of GRHS.
After retiring from teaching, Rudy become one of the founding members of Art on the Green and started the 2D and 3D twenty-four hour competition which is probably the only one of its kind in the country. This was started in 2005 with artists coming from all over the country to complete. It now has professional levels, semi-professional and high school student levels. Rudy was commissioned to sculpt a raring mustang/hawk for the City of Green River which was completed and unveiled this past summer."
