Dewey Square Demonstration Garden - Boston, MA - Demonstration Gardens on Waymarking.com

In Boston's Dewey Square, in the Financial District-Waterfront District, and in the Rose Kennedy Greenway, is a set of demonstration gardens that serve to educate Boston residents of the kinds of gardens that they can create on their own.

The gardens are located at a busy intersection, where Summer Street, Atlantic Avenue and Purchase Streets cross. The gardens are on the westerly side of the park. Nearest the sidewalks is a pair of sheds with plants on the roof and around it. The next garden in is the pollinator garden to showcase flowers that bees and other pollinators. The next garden is a raised edible garden, which is more or less a vegetable garden. The next garden is a rain garden, which is designed to help rain water to slowly sink into the ground instead of collecting in storm drains. And, finally, is a compost area to demonstrate how to make a compost heap. Also in the garden is a demonstration table, which is designed for experts to provide talks which could include cooking and gardening demos or lectures and talks on food, gardening and the environment.

These gardens are tied together with a path to walk through. There are signs as well to describe the garden.

These gardens were created in 2012.
