At 7,373 feet, Lemhi Pass was the highest point on the westward route of the Lewis & Clark Expedition in 1805. Meriwether Lewis and three members of the Expedition crossed westbound here on August 12 and returned eastbound on the 15th. The full Expedition cross on the 26th with the assistance of the local Shoshone.
