In Boston's Financial District, is 50 Congress Street, also known as the State Mutual Building, which has columns on either side of the entrance, with sphinxs incorporated into the chapiters.
The building is in an area known as Post Office Square, near the present McCormick Federal Building that has a post office. It stands on the east side of Congress Street and is 10 stories tall. According to Emporis, it was built in 1902.
On either side of the entrance to the building is a column that ends at the second floor with a chapiter. Within the chapiter are two sphinx carvings, facing each other. The sphinx have a woman's head, a lion's body, and curly wings. One of the front paws is touching the torch that is set between them.
