A city skyline runs across the top, with stylized gears (for roads?) and animals in the foreground. A duck on a blue background is probably a reference to the nearby Elbow River. This box is located near the SW corner of the intersection between 25th Ave SW and 4 St SW.

One of Calgary's first painted utility boxes, this box can be seen on Google Street View images from May 2009; it was probably painted in the summer or fall of 2008, since Calgary's weather means May is pretty early for such a project. Perhaps because it was an early experiment, the paint has started to peel in many places. (Calgary's current utility box painting program has city workers prime and sand the box before painting, and apply a final graffiti-resistant coating once it's complete.) The official pilot program for painted utility boxes began in 2010, according to the webpage for the program.

The artists for this box were most likely with the Urban Youth Worx program (now Antyx Community Arts) in conjunction with Calgary artist Scott Clark. (Scott Clark is credited with working with Antyx on the Antyx website, and the box is signed "S. Clark".)

The text running around the base of the box (a list of sponsors?) reads:

The City of Calgary - Transportation Roads - Community & Protective Services - Animal & Bylaw - Urban Youth Worx - 4th St. Business Revitalization Zone - For more info go to www.calgary.ca - click on Report Graffiti

More recent boxes do not have all this information on them, suggesting that when this box was painted, it was a brand new initiative that needed some organization to get started. Antyx have painted at least three more utility boxes, according to their website.
