Originally placed within Fairview Cemetery by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1899, the memorial was moved to its present location in 1906 at the request of the Sons of the Confederacy. It is of a Confederate infantryman, rifle in one hand, the other hand shading his eyes, while looking out into the distance.
The various inscriptions on the base read:
