War Memorial erected by the citizens of Port Hope to honour those from the area who volunteered for, and gave their lives in defence of country and king in both World Wars and Korea.

Interesting to note that years for WWI are listed as 1914 - 1919, vs the more commonly accepted 1914-1918.

The names of those who died in the 1914-1919 period and in 1939-1945 and in Korea are all engraved as well. The individuals listed without ranks are all private soldiers (rank of "Private").
The dead from 1939-1945 and Korea are listed on the side of the monument, as is a brass plaque with
Korea 1950-1953
affixed to the lower portion of the monument.

Description of Memorial: The memorial is an obelisk style monumemt situated adjacent to the Port Hope Town Hall.
This is a large "town-square" type area, with a large bandshell, plenty of picnic and play areas and a few other memorials and monuments.
