Marker inscription:
Carter's Station - 1C-25
One-half mile south of here, John Carter found an Indian fortified village, made peace with the Indians and established a camp for settlers, shortly after coming here from Surry County, North Carolina, in 1783. Many settlers and their descendants are buried in the cemetery near the site of the fort.
Located off Highway TN-70 on Albany Road at someone's driveway. (Better would to be relocated the sign to be on TN-70 for visibility - even if slightly off on distance to the cemetery.)
