[EN] «The village of Piódão is an architectural complex of great interest both for its antiquity, as the unit and the state of preservation of the buildings, harmoniously integrated into the natural setting.
The houses were constructed on slopes that go up the hills, forming an irregular amphitheater, surrounded by dense vegetation, typical of of schist slopes, existing in the center of the country.
In schist of course, were built almost all the houses and streets of Piódão, linked by stairs from the same material, which bear the multiple uneven terrain.»
[PT] «A aldeia de Piódão constitui um conjunto arquitectónico de grande interesse, tanto pela sua antiguidade, como pela unidade e estado de preservação das construções, harmoniosamente integradas no cenário natural.
O primeiro aglomerado populacional, o casal de Piodão Velho, fora erguido num vale próximo da actual aldeia, existindo ainda alguns vestígios do mesmo. Os habitantes deste casal, ou parte deles, deslocaram-se em data incerta (mas possivelmente no século XV) para a actual localização, na encosta Sul da serra do Açor.
As casas foram construídas em socalcos que sobem pela serra, compondo um anfiteatro irregular, cercado pela vegetação densa, típica das encostas ricas em xisto da zona centro do país.
Em xisto, naturalmente, foram construídas quase todas as casas e ruas de Piódão, ligadas entre si por escadas do mesmo material, que vencem os múltiplos desníveis do terreno.»
