Middlefield Beck Bridge was once probably a ford across the shallow stream. Eventually becoming a bridge when the racecourse was improved.

On horse racing days the bridge is closed as the track crosses over the road at the western end of the bridge. Looking underneath the widening of the structure is seen. The parapets would have added to stop people falling in the shallow slow moving stream.
