Johannes Lerch was born in Lower Saucon Township., Northampton County, Pennsylvania. The inscription on his gravestone indicates a date of birth as November 17, 1747 while church baptism records indicate a date of birth as October 17, 1747 (his baptism took place on November 6, 1747). In about 1770 he moved from Lower Saucon to Allen Township, Northampton where he became owner of 300 acres which he farmed. In the Revolutionary War he served as a private. He died March 17, 1818.
