The parents of Santa Catalina Thomas died when she was quite young, 3 when her father died and 7 when mother died. She had visions after they died telling her they were now in heaven. She was a devout peasant girl who became a nun, Augustan Order when she was 21. She lived a frugal life of prayer and died at 43 on 5 April 1555. Her mummified body remains are buried in the Chapel of Santa Maria Magdalena in Palma. She was canonized a saint in 1930 and has quite a following in Valldemossa and Mallorca. Her feast day is 5 April.

The house where she was born and lived as an orphan is now her shrine. It is beside the church, at Carrer de la Rectoria 5. The shrine is open for visitors and pilgrims. There you find the statue and signs in many languages telling her story. As you walk through Valldemossa, you will see plaques on many houses telling the legends of her life, the visions from God, saints, angels, the protection from evil demons and devils. Most of the plaques ask her to pray for us.
