It was originally built as a commercial building in 1850 and then expanded and converted into a hotel between 1867 and 1875.
Like so many of the buildings in the downtown, the first story of the Franklin Street facade of the Wilson Hotel has been greatly altered over time, but fortunately, a sympathetic recent renovation of the building has undone some of the damage.
