Vang Vieng Southern Bus Station—Vang Vieng Town, Loas - Bus Stations on Waymarking.com

Vang Vieng is filled with young people from all over the world, drawn by the River, the easy lifestyle and an opportunity to relax in low cost relative comfort. There are several means to reach this locale, one is by bus. There are several bus services from the national capital of Vientiane. A journey from here will take four or so hours, along a bumpy, hilly, sometimes partially not there road. It is also possible to reach Vang from the northern Laos town of Luang Prabang.

There are two bus stations in the town of Vang, one to the north, the other to the south (this station) of the town. I have been told that the northern station, which looks similar in design to the southern, deals with travel for foreigners, while the southern station is for locals. Though there is no signage to indicate this, and I have seen foreigners use this southern station, so... ?

This southern station is on the south west edge of the town, and is visible from the main road. The centre of the station, set back from the main road, is an open building, with space for at most ten large buses, with a central waiting area. Food and drink available for purchase from nearby vendors. Interestingly enough, while there is a ticket office here it is unoccupied. Ticketing is done in the various guest houses and travel agents in town, not at the station. Your ticket price includes a mini-bus ride to the station.

From here one can travel the length of Laos, or to nearby Thailand or the more distant Cambodia, or on the long journey north to the Middle Kingdom.


One thing to note, when arriving in Vang Vieng, you will most likely not stop at a bus station. It has been my experience that you will be conveyed to a guest house in the town, who has paid a fee to have you alight here, or on the eastern edge of the former Vietnam War era airstrip. At night, in the rain, this looks a bit daunting, but just walk northwards to the end of the strip, turn left, and you are in the centre of the town. Good luck.
