Taconite Harbor was a once active community on the shores of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota.
Taconite Harbor was founded in the 1950's as a company town. Built to house the taconite processing facility's employees the town was a suburban community. Houses, playgrounds, basketball courts and more made this a great place to live.
Taconite Harbor was abandoned in the late 1980's, the houses moved and now is a virtual ghost town. You can still see the remnants of the paved streets, planted trees and a couple of forlorn street lamps.
Nearby are some mining equipment displays, a safe harbor and a boat launch.
This is a great and very interesting roadside pullover.
