My photographer friend, Roger McKnight, and I discovered this commercial vessel that came to grief in the narrow channel at Rock Island Light in the Saint Lawrence River Seaway. Facts are few and far between, but each of the locals with whom we've spoken have a different story of what might have happened. I welcome factual accounts from loggers to aid in the identification of this vessel and her history.
Date of Shipwreck: unknown - research is ongoing.
Type of Boat: Steamboat
Military or Civilian: Civilian
Cause of Shipwreck: Unknown - but strong currents, a narrow channel, and a storm are likely suspects - research is ongoing.
Accessibility: Only by Boat to the Day-Use New York State Park at Rock Island Light. Just downriver and easily seen from the park, yet hidden from river channel view. Obviously, they were 'way off course.
