This is the site of one of the oldest African-Canadian settlements established by African loyalists from the War of 1812. Between 1830 and 1850 some 24 families who fled slavery were established in Oro Twp. and in 1849 they acquired this land and built the church. The church is still in active use.The plaque is located on the right hand face of the cairn in the picture.
