"Longamente considerada do período romano, a actual ponte de Rubiães deve antes ser catalogada como obra medieval e posteriormente remodelada em altura desconhecida, muito provavelmente na época moderna. Com efeito, e ainda que sejam muito fortes os argumentos (e os indícios materiais) que apontam para a reutilização medieval de uma anterior estrutura romana, são também decisivos os elementos que confirmam uma tipologia medieval.
De triplo arco escalonado e harmónico, todos de volta perfeita, mas sendo o médio de vão bem superior que os dois laterais (estes últimos mais semelhantes a olhais das pontes góticas que, propriamente, a arcos de sustentação), a ponte compõe-se de um tabuleiro de dupla rampa, em cavalete, característica que contradiz a tendência horizontalizante das pontes romanas.
Por outro lado, quer no pavimento, que em algumas partes dos alçados, existem silhares mais delgados e de recorte imperfeito. Se as bases dos pilares e algumas lajes do tabuleiro são pedras romanas muito bem aparelhadas - facto que confirma a anterioridade da ponte em relação à época medieval -, não deixa de ser sintomático que, coexistindo com elas, apareçam outras tipologias de aparelho, salientando-se alguma pedra miúda nos acessos às rampas e silhares de diferentes dimensões em vários locais."

Triple arc scaled and harmonious, all perfect round, but the average will be well above the two sides (the latter more like the bridges Gothic eyelets that, properly, the supporting arches), the bridge consists of a double board ramp, on the easel, a characteristic that contradicts the trend horizontalizante of Roman bridges.
Moreover, the floor or, in some parts of the elevations, there are thinner and ashlars clipping imperfect. If the bases of some pillars and slabs of stone Roman board are very well equipped - a fact which confirms the precedence of the bridge in relation to medieval times - it is nonetheless significant that, coexisting with them, show other types of apparatus, stressing if any access to the rubble and ashlars ramps of different sizes in various locations."
