Will Rogers Park was developed in the 1930s as a joint effort of the Oklahoma Parks Department and the National Park Service. The land was cleared, landscaped and terraced by the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Works Progress Administration. This amphitheater is large and is the venue for many concerts throughout the year. For information concerning the amphitheater and its programs, contact the Parks Department at 405-297-3882.
The amphitheater has two semi-circular sections, each with sixteen rows of seating. The seating is constructed using native sandstone, typical of much of the WPA structures building during the 1930s. Each row of seating is separated from the next by a narrow band of grass. At the base of the theater, a large semi-circular concrete stage is the site of theater and concerts. Iron fencing surrounds the amphitheater. The area outside the fence is nicely landscaped and is the site of an eight foot granite monument which was dedicated when the amphitheater was renovated. It reads:
