Officially called the Transcona Sewage Lift Station but referred to by locals as "The Witch's Hut", this building constructed in 1915 and designed by W.M.Scott.
It pumped local sewage from a large pit located some 25 feet underground into the Red River almost 6 kilometers west of here. The four columns that look like chimneys served as vents to allow the sewer gas to escape from the 40 foot diameter pit.
Pumping into the Red River stopped in 1977 and this structure was retired in 1988 by the Waterworks, Waste and Disposal Department and turned over for restoration and on-going upkeep to the Parks and Recreation Department.
