The memorial is a dedication to those
that lost their lives in World War I and World War II and like many other
memorial the Second World War addition came after the memorial was already in
place.
This memorial has a bronze statue on
top of a Portland stone plinth. The plinth stands about three metres high and
the statue, of St George slaying the dragon, is about life-size. On the north
west face of the plinth are the inscriptions "1914 - 1918" and "1939 - 1945".
Above the years is carved the coat-of-arms of the borough of St Marylebone. On
the south east face of the plinth, below a carved coat-of-arms, is an
inscription that reads:
A grateful
tribute
to the men and women of
Saint Mary-le-Bone
who by
their
service and sacrifice
for King and Country
freely played their
part
in the Great War
1914 - 1918
and in the Second World War
1939
-1945
The monument is Grade II listed and the
